Learning Photography Should Be Fun!
I’m based on the beautiful Fylde Coast in Lancashire, where I run friendly, relaxed photography workshops at Knott End Library and in Poulton, with courses sponsored by Fylde Council.
Fancy getting your camera off Auto and finally finding out what all those buttons and dials actually do? My four-week beginners photography workshops are designed to help you do just that!
We explore composition, learn to really look at photographs and discover what makes a good image. We tackle the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed and ISO) and gradually build the confidence to move from full Auto to Manual. There’s plenty of practical photography, lots of questions, even more laughter and absolutely no such thing as a silly question!
The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and great fun. We work in small groups, so there’s always time for individual help, and we have a WhatsApp group for ongoing support, sharing photographs and the occasional bit of banter.
And the best part? It doesn’t have to end after four weeks! After you complete the course, you’re welcome to join our monthly photography club, where we keep learning together. Each session includes a little theory followed by a practical shoot. Its for two hours and cost £10.
Getting the Most Out of Your Camera Phone
You don’t need an expensive camera to take wonderful photographs. In fact, there’s probably a pretty good one sitting in your pocket right now!
I also run a fun, two-week camera phone workshop where we discover just what our phones are capable of. From finding the best light and improving composition to portraits, creative techniques and simple editing, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, these sessions are relaxed, practical and full of little tricks that can make a big difference. And don’t worry, you don’t need the latest phone or a teenager on standby to explain how it works!
Photography Talks & Mini Workshops
I’m also available to visit local groups, clubs and organisations across the Fylde Coast and surrounding areas to give talks about my photography journey. After more than 25 years behind the camera, working both here in the UK and overseas, I’ve collected plenty of photographs, stories and experiences to share. Some are moving, some are funny, and a few involve things not quite going to plan!
I also offer shorter, practical workshops on getting the most out of your camera or camera phone. These are particularly useful for small business owners who want to improve their own photography without spending a fortune on equipment. Maybe your networking group may be interested?
Whether you’re photographing products, creating content for social media or simply wanting to show the person behind your business, I’ll show you how a little understanding of light, composition and backgrounds can make a huge difference. No fancy lighting, no complicated equipment, just simple techniques that work.
Come Along and Have a Go!
My approach to teaching is much the same as my approach to photography: relaxed, natural and with a good sense of humour. I want people to leave feeling inspired, more confident and, above all, excited to pick up their camera again.
If you’d like to join a workshop at Knott End or Poulton, arrange a talk for your group or organise a photography session for your business, please get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
And yes, there may occasionally be cake!
